This is a fun read. It is about a man who goes mad at teh hands of a pirate and is left on an island with natives in the Pacific. One of the thinks that drove him mad was that the pirate threw his son overboard to drown. It has a lot of twists and the Madman and the pirate are bound to face each other at the end. The author sprinkled religion through it in an interesting way. This is a people book not a technical book of the days of pirates and ships.
The Madman and the Pirate RM Ballantyne Books
I like R.M Ballantyne. Not all his books are well written. One gets the impression that some of his stories were written hurriedly and not polished off enough. He writes from an unashamedly Christian world view, but he does even more than that, he weaves the Christian message into his books - which I think was unusual even for his time period. For that reason some will love him and some will hate him.Product details

The Madman and the Pirate RM Ballantyne Books Reviews
Stevenson's beloved "Ballantyne the brave" was a popular writer of adventure stories for boys in the Victorian era. This is about mutiny and piracy in the Pacific. The style is simple and direct, almost naive. The plot hops about from place to place and year to year (three years are skipped in one sentence). Those readers who are atheists or politically correct need not apply, for they will be offended! The "savages" speak in an Uncle Remus dialect apparently intended to be funny. This could never be published today as a new book, nor made into a movie in its original form.
I have always loved Ballantyne's books and this although not "The Coral Island" is no exception. His books are full of excitement, adventure, and great stories. But most important is their message of the gospel. This book shows how God truly works in mysterious ways to transform lives and complete his will.
I like R.M Ballantyne. Not all his books are well written. One gets the impression that some of his stories were written hurriedly and not polished off enough. He writes from an unashamedly Christian world view, but he does even more than that, he weaves the Christian message into his books - which I think was unusual even for his time period.
